What’s Happening
I have been thinking about writing this for quite a while now. In my mind I have composed this many times and I still don’t know exactly what I want to say (which makes this just like every time you heard me speak into a microphone over the past eight years)
Here goes…
As most of you know, Brad and I will be doing afternoons on WBT in Charlotte very soon. I am especially happy for Brad because he was forced to leave WBT many years ago through no fault of his own. It was because of that, we were able to get together on WZTK and create what we did for all those years, so I am grateful that things have come full circle
The last couple of months have been difficult, but our fans always carried us. I’ll never forget one e-mail that we got about a month after CMG switched ZTK to Spanish. The guy said he was having a hard time listening through all the static, but he said he would make me a deal. He said, “If you guys continue to kick it, I will find a way to listen”.
How can you even dream of having better fans than that?
It was particularly tough seeing people in public over the past couple of months who would look mournfully at you and say “Miss you in the mornings” (this happened no less than six times to us at a May appearance in Greensboro). At first, this would upset me and I would want to scream at them “WE’RE STILL DOING A SHOW! WE’RE STILL EMPLOYED! WE’RE NOT DEAD”
But, I came to realize that they were just expressing sorrow because we were part of their lives and now we weren’t. It was actually a compliment. You have to touch someone in order to be missed
I’ll never know exactly what confluence of cosmic events came together to allow us to do what we did on WZTK, but I’m so happy that we were given a LARGE canvas and a bucket of paint. I know many people have been angry at the company for what happened back in March, but it was VERY ballsy to create an FM Talk station back in 2004. It was the kind of innovation and risk-taking that radio needed then and needs now
I am now taking the biggest step I have ever taken in my career and I know it’s because of the passion of the fans. Our fans fought for this show and supported us every step of the way. There’s no way I can ever repay what our fans have done for us. Thank you
The great thing about the digital world is that we don’t have to say goodbye. WBT has a great app and it’s FREE! Those of you who we encouraged to grab the TuneIn app, don’t worry: WBT is available on TuneIn. And I’m very excited to announce that, for the first time, we will be on the iheartradio app for ios and Android (not to mention streaming from WBT’s website and the iheartradio website)
And our podcasts will continue and be better than ever. Just click here
Plus, we’ll still have our playground on facebook and twitter. We’ll even be continuing to post content on tumblr
I know we’ve already had some tremendous changes in the first half of this year, but I’m really excited about doing the show on WBT. It will be a lot more like the old morning show that made many of you fans of what we do
I will not forget what you did for us and especially what you did for us when times weren’t so great. Thank you so much
